ReelCatch

ReelCatch is a fishing activity monitoring service designed for fisheries and fishing authorities.

The service identifies suspected illegal fishing and possible illegal landing reports by individual fishermen, and reports these to the relevant authority.

The service uses vessel location information (from data loggers or VMS), and catch reports provided by vessel owners. Using a propriety self learning algorithm, the system is able to detect suspicious reports regarding both the reported fishing areas and the catch information itself.

ReelCatch has been tested successfully in the North Sea area, the Black Sea and in the Indian Ocean. The development of ReelCatch was partially funded by the EU FP6 CEDER project.
