World Wide Automatic Identification System

WWAIS is a maritime vessel monitoring service. It is designed to monitor large vessels in the deep ocean areas.

WWAIS detects abnormal behaviour (motion patterns) of maritime vessels worldwide. These may indicate illegal activity such as smuggling, piracy and loitering beyond RADAR range.
Such data in real-time can help law enforcement forces to better focus their efforts on suspected vessels.

The service utilizes AIS data (collected via satellites and other AIS data sources)

Also, WWAIS was used to analyze data from a real world scenario: the arrest of the "FRANCOP" at the end of 2009. This is available on Youtube.
